Digital Wynter

Wednesday, February 25, -
Speaker(s): Dr. Michael Eng, Appalachian State University
This talk takes up Sylvia Wynter's engagement with cybernetics to critique the contemporary cultural fascination with AI. The talk will focus specifically on Wynter's call for a "new science of the word" as a way to uncover and combat the racializing and gendering forms of extraction that constitute what Eng calls AI's "narcissistic algorithmic archive." This talk is part of Dr. Eng's current book manuscript "On the Digital Prehistories of Race."
