Women and Visual Media Studies

This course explores visual media by women artists, as well as the production, circulation, and reception of visual culture about the idea of “woman.” Drawing on feminist scholarship across disciplines, students will examine representation, spectatorship, power, beauty, and sex. We will explore work by popular icon Beyoncé, artist Lorna Simpson, but also independent documentary films on relevant themes. Instructor: Cobb
