How to Major in Liberal Arts and Still Get a Job

Anthropology is more art than science. It relies on in-depth interviewing and participant observation to describe the worlds of others. Anthropologists bring a unique perspective to the study of social life—a perspective that emphasizes the 'insider's' view and the power of the 'single story.' This course sets out to introduce you to some of the varied applications of anthropological theory and ethnographic method in contemporary institutional settings with the aim of familiarizing you with how anthropologists go about their work in complex organizational settings and to what end. Suitable for anthropology and humanities majors (broadly defined), we will learn how critical thinking, cultural fluency, creativity, and problem solving have their place in professional life.
