Atlantic Worlds Workshop Methods Seminar

This seminar examines methodological and theoretical approaches to the study of the Atlantic world, a framework for exploring connections among Europe, Africa, and the Americas. It considers debates over the value of 'Atlantic' as a category, the challenges of integrating diverse geographies, and intersections with global history, diaspora studies, and postcolonial theory. Readings emphasize how these questions have shaped scholarly understandings of empire, migration, slavery, and revolution. Connected to a workshop series with visiting scholars, the course highlights the methods underpinning current research. Open to graduate students and advanced undergraduates.
